Our History
Our story began in 1932, when Kew Chan (陳大球, 1882-1968, aka Chan Tai-kau), a Hakka from Guangdong, China, founded “Union Construction Company” (華聯建築) in Hong Kong. As legend has it, Chan insisted that every item - from locks and latches to hinges and doors - had to be installed perfectly, with no corners cut, or the job would have to be redone.
With such high standards in place, and a practice of collaboration with like-minded industry partners, Union grew to become a major contractor between the 1940s and 1970s for public works such as the construction, maintenance and repairs of roads and bridges. The family eventually sold the business in Hong Kong in the 1980s.
